It’s no secret that drunk driving is a huge problem in Washington. Every year, thousands of people die in auto accidents that involve a driver who was under the influence.

How drunk driving leads to car accidents

One of the most common ways that drunk driving leads to motor vehicle accidents is by impairing the driver’s ability to operate a vehicle safely. When a person is drunk, their coordination and reaction time are both significantly decreased. This can make it very difficult for them to avoid an accident, even if they are driving slowly.

Another way that drunk driving can lead to car accidents is by causing the driver to fall asleep at the wheel. This is especially common in cases where the driver has been drinking for a long period of time and their blood alcohol content (BAC) is very high.

Lastly, drunk driving increases the likelihood of aggressive or risky behavior. When a driver is under the influence, they are more likely to take risks that they wouldn’t normally take, such as speeding or running red lights. This can obviously lead to auto accidents.

What should you do if you’re injured by a drunk driver?

If you or someone you know has been injured in an auto accident that was caused by a drunk driver, it’s important to gather as much evidence as possible. This includes things like photos of the accident scene, witness statements and the police report.

Getting injured in a car accident is always a scary experience, but it’s even more terrifying when you find out that the other driver was drunk. Reducing the number of intoxicated drivers on the roadways will make everyone safer.
